Agriculture accounts for approximately 70% of all water use in the world. Did you know that it takes approximately 37 gallons to make one cup of coffee, 155 gallons to grow one pound of wheat, and five to ten times more to produce one pound of meat? Tossing out food wastes therefore equates to wasting the water that went into production. To make the greatest impact in decreasing your water footprint, consider purchasing the correct amounts of food and using all leftovers – not only will you save water, but you will also save money!
